About Median Monitor

Median Monitor maps the daily diagrams of People's Liberation Army (PLA) air and naval activity published by Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND).

The ADIZ and the median line

The median line is the informal center line of the Taiwan Strait. MND's daily report records PLA aircraft sorties, naval vessel counts and ADIZ activity, alongside a schematic diagram of them.

Using the map

Pick a day on the calendar, or step through days with the arrows beside the date.
Single day shows one report; Range shows a span of days; Density shows a heatmap over the span.
The controls button (top left) and bulletin button (top right) show or hide the side panels.
Opacity tunes how strongly the areas are drawn. Click any shape for its details.
Export downloads the current selection as GeoJSON, a map image, or a time-lapse.

The data

The diagrams are schematic indications, not measured flight paths, and the extracted geometry is approximate. The panel on the right carries MND's own bulletin text for the day, where MND published it as text.

The mapped areas are extracted from MND's schematic diagrams (示意圖): they are indications, not flight tracks, and can sit about 60 km from the activity they mark. Median Monitor's geometry is a modified derivative work, not MND's original data; MND does not endorse it, and MND's names, emblems and trademarks are not covered by the license.
